Bob Stifter
Alias "Black Bart"
Bob has been riding for over 50 years and started
competing at speed shows over 35 years ago. He also has been an avid hunter and
tournament trap shooter. Combining the sports made it very easy for him to come
into the world of cowboy mounted shooting back in 1997 when the sport was still
very new to Midwest.
Bob & Midnight were the Midwest Reserve Champions for
1997,98,99,2000 & 2001. Now we know that was long before the mind-blowing
competitions of today. But none-the-less the awards stand proudly in the trophy
cabinet.
Paul
Pierson created the Pioneer Award especially for Bob for his years of
contribution to the horse world as not only a competitor but also a person who
sets a great example for all, from young to old alike. It’s great to be first,
but having fun with sportsmanship has always come first in Bob’s heart.
Although you don’t see much of Bob around the shooting competitions these days,
he is still a big member in spirit. We have nicknamed him “The Missing Cowboy”
because he’s always gone someplace.
Turning
70 years old this year hasn’t slowed him down much. Maybe he only splits one
cord of wood instead of two in the same day. Along with his equine “soul
partner”, 23 year old Midnight Express…….they travel the country performing at
Wild West Shows and coliseum events as Cossack Ivan the Black.
You
might be seeing a little less of Mr. Bright also, as he & Willie have joined Bob
on the road portraying Chief Iron Foot & Injun Spirit.
Bob &
Midnight also perform a heart pounding American Flag presentation, which has the
audience on their feet screaming.
Bob’s
motto: “You don’t stop playing because you grow old – you grow old
because you stop playing!”
